What is Pilates?

Pronouced ''pee-la-tays'', it's a method of exercise

devised in the 1920's by Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a method of exercise that targets the deep abdominal muscles to build strength from the inside out.  It emphasises balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient movement.

Oesteopaths, physiotherapists and GPs recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise available.  The benefits of Pilates are available for everyone, regardless of age, ability and fitness levels.  From the first time exerciser to the elite athlete.

Pilates helps to:

  • Teach good movement patterns and co-ordination
  • Relieve stress and improve muscle tone and strength
  • Find good postural alignment
  • Create a stronger, healthier back
  • Compliment other fitness programmes
